REMINDER: Comments on COBI's Island Wide Mobility Plan are being accepted thru 10am on April 18.Squeaky Wheels has reviewed the IWMP and submitted our comments. Here are a few key highlights from our letter to COBI:- SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL - Goal: Ensure that all children living within one mile of a public school can safely walk or bike there. Let’s not wait for long-term projects to address this — what short-term improvements can we implement immediately to make routes safer?- CONNECTING CENTERS NETWORK - Goals: 1. Ensure all residents within one mile of a neighborhood center can safely walk or bike to it. 2.Ensure these neighborhood center routes connect seamlessly to the broader island network.- TARGETED SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS - Goal: Make our streets safe for current users by targeting key areas where safety issues are most acute, especially along commuter routes. Prioritizing these improvements alongside Safe Routes to School and the Connecting Centers network will make a real difference for people navigating unsafe conditions right now.The IWMP currently lacks financial prioritization, which is crucial. We need a realistic path from where we are today to a future where active transportation is a safe and viable choice for many trips.
