Roundabout safety design workshop

The Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation and other local nonprofits will host a public presentation on nonmotorized safety in roundabout design at 7 p.m. on Feb. 12 at the Woodward Middle School Commons.

The planned presentation is by Haskoning, a Netherlands-based engineering firm recognized internationally for its sustainable transportation design work.

The presentation is free and open to the community. It is co-hosted by the Parks & Trails Foundation, Sustainable Bainbridge, Squeaky Wheels and the Puget Sound to Pacific Collaborative.

The Washington State Department of Transportation is planning a roundabout at the SR‑305/High School Road intersection, slated for construction in 2028.

The planned roundabout intersects with the Sound to Olympics Trail, a nexus of the island’s nonmotorized network and the community’s commitment to walking, biking and rollability. The Parks & Trails Foundation, Sustainable Bainbridge and Squeaky Wheels have funded the public presentation by Haskoning to advance community discussion on trails connectivity and nonmotorized safety.

WSDOT is accepting public comments on the 305/High School Road project online here, with the pre-design comment period running Feb. 2-20.
